Grants for Alaskan Youth Leading Change in Local Communities in Alaska (USA)
GrantID: 75092
Grant Funding Amount Low: $500
Deadline: Ongoing
Grant Amount High: $2,000
Summary
This program honors Alaska youth aged 12-19 across the entire state, in both individual and group categories. Anyone in the community may nominate; nominations are often made by school personnel, youth organizations, peers, or other community members who have witnessed the nominee’s positive impact. The purpose is to recognize young people who are working in ways that often go unnoticed, improving life in their communities through service, leadership, creativity, or perseverance.
Once nominated, youths become eligible for annual awards. A selection council composed of young people reviews all nominations and chooses a set of recipients and runners-up. Individual awardees receive a scholarship, while runners-up also receive smaller scholarship amounts. Groups that are selected receive a grant to help support the group’s ongoing efforts. All nominees receive a certificate and are publicly acknowledged. Some recipients are featured in radio stories, which reach many communities across the state, giving visibility to the positive contributions of youth.
There are eight award categories that recognize different kinds of contributions. These include humanitarian work, innovation or scientific effort, lifesaving actions, overcoming hardship, entrepreneurship or visionary undertakings, cultural and artistic work, role modeling, and environmental or discovery-focused initiatives. Nomination materials ask for descriptions of youth-led projects, how the nominee has benefited others or addressed a problem, and what makes their work inspiring or unique. Supporting materials such as photos or press articles may optionally be included.
Deadlines occur annually, and eligibility is restricted to youth in Alaska. The program provides both financial and reputational benefits: scholarships, grants, media exposure, and recognition at public events. It is not for businesses, but for individuals or youth groups who are active in serving or leading in their communities.
This grant may be available to individuals and organizations in Alaska that are actively involved in Science, Technology Research & Development. To locate more funding opportunities in your field, visit The Grant Portal and search by interest area using the Search Grant tool.
